| Trial
Report:
With a brutal winter of ice and snow, this trial was difficult to prepare for. Tracking conditions were poor with frozen ground and ice. Several dogs that had planned to trial pulled at the last minute due to an inability to get tracking practice in. Despite the difficult conditions, three handlers were committed to giving it their best shot. We had two dogs pass at the trial, Dallas and Prinz. Prinze was excellent and did a very good job in his routine. Dallas did a great job for an old retired fellow passing the BH and then passing out for 3 days. Next came Proximo whose handler, Darlene Racca was an amazing sport for not pulling him despite the inability to get any real training in. Proximo was not having an easy day with a female in his home in season and the poor tracking conditions. Proximo made a respectable attempt and we applaud him for getting out there despite the conditions. Nikki Banfield was a hard, but fair judge and a terrific sport. We thank her for coming and helping us make this a wonderful learning experience for all. |

| Trial
Report:
This trial was originally scheduled for four dogs. Through a series of unusual events including one competitor tragically passing away and another's car breaking down on the way to the trial field, only one dog remained to trial. Tonka took the field and passed her OB1 with a very good score of 91 points. The rest of the day was spent with new USABC certified helper, Francis Holdin along with Dave Fritsch working dogs, only taking a break for the delicious barbeque provided by Boston Beef. As soon as lunch was over, the fellas went back to the working seminar. We had a total of 12 or so dogs working and all had a blast. |

| Trial
Report:
With Daylight savings peering onto the playing field and the mist of a memorable autumn day settling into the air, the intensity thickened as USABC trials were set to begin. The 5 teams spent most of their pretrial minutes bonding and warming up. The Handlers meeting was held with direction from Mr. Richard Quinn the USABC Judge. USABC Helpers Phil Kanakis and David Fritsch received their instructions and assignments. The first USABC Trials were underway. First to enter onto the field, from Big Dog Kennels were handler Rich Danowski and Grimm’s Machine Mo. The momentum of this team is gaining respect from all corners of the American Bulldog community. Rich and Mo have been competing on many different training fields, which has proven Machine Mo’s adaptability. The team approached the Judge for introduction to USABC’s Obedience One Trial. Team BDK set out into the field with confidence. In the first moments of observation all could see why this team is respected in the American Bulldog Community. As the trial proceeded, the flare of discipline and hard work revealed itself. Scoring an 81 out of a possible 100 (70 passing) Team BDK became the second American Bulldog with and OB1 Title. Congratulations to Rich Danowski and Machine Mo. Next to set the field on fire were three teams attempting the Protection Dog One Trial. First was the Obedience portion of the test. Team BDK with Rich Danowski and Machine Mo showed consistency when they scored an 81 out of a possible 100 (70 passing) to move onto the protection portion. Team MAF with handler Marcus Floyd and Black Storm were up next. As they proceeded with the obedience, Marcus and Storm showed us the true bonding between man and bulldog. They gave a professional performance scoring a 77 sending them to the protection portion as well. The third and final team competing in the PD1 stood out on the trial field. Carlos Colon and Colon’s Mojo, a Cane Corso, came to strut their stuff. It was exciting to see “a new dog on the block”. They represented the Cane Corso with integrity and professionalism and the breed should be proud to have such an excellent team out there working their dogs. With a score of 64, Team Colon did not earn enough points to continue on to Protection, but it was an excellent first showing at a USABC trial and they did their breed proud. The protection portion of the PD1 was well anticipated by both the teams and the large crowd of spectators. Team BDK and MAF both were in the running to be the first Bulldog teams to hold the PD1 title. The stage was set with the obedience portion showing promise and commitment. Team BDK came out strong and gave a respectable performance. Scoring 65 out of a possible 100 (70 passing) BDK gave us an intense performance. Team MAF took the field. Marcus and Storm brought a familiarity to the field. You could see the connection between the handler and the dog. They performed like champions scoring a close 67. Both dogs came within mere points of achieving this difficult title and we look forward to great things from both in the near future!* For the finishing touches the USABC had one team attempting the Protection Dog Two. Boyd’s Coal Chamber and handler Joshua Markow stepped up to the plate to give it a go. An air of confidence surrounded both man and bulldog as they entered the field. This team is no stranger to the trial field. This team comes to play hard. With a tremendous performance by all the competitors earlier in the trials Josh and Coal knew they had big shoes to fill. As the proceeded you could see experience shine through as the team scored a 151 out of a possible 200 (140 passing) to become the first USABC PD2 titled American Bulldog Team. Congratulations to Josh and Coal. The
weekend was full of friends, fun and good competition. Good sportsmanship
gave the show and trials the feeling of Bulldog days of old where man and
bulldog competed side by side sharing training techniques with a friendly
handshake. This set the stage for all future USABC trials. The USABC was
proud to be apart of the ABA Nationals. We thank all the competitors for
their hard work and commitment to this wonderful breed. We look forward
to seeing you all in the near future.
*The USABC wishes to extend our condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Marcus Floyd on the untimely passing of his beautiful dog MAFs Black Storm BH, OB1, TT who died the week after this trial from an accidental poisening. Storm was a great American Bulldog and a fine ambassador for our breed. We were looking forward to wonderful contributions from Storm and are so very sorry she is gone. ![]() |
